Artist of the week – comic book art from Joshua Kemble

Joshua is a freelance illustrator and an award winning cartoonist. He was born in California and has a BA in Illustration from the University of Long Beach. This is where he currently resides as well. He received the Xeric Award, he’s been nominated to a Stumptown Trophee in 2007, and has been featured in the field’s important publications like 3×3 Illustration Annual and CMYK. He is working on a graphic novel  called Jacob’s Apartment but he also does illustrations for magazines, t shirt designs and many other things.

His portfolio easily shows his affinity for comic book characters and graphics. He’s read comic books for much of his life. He loves the blending of image and text that build up to a story. It is important for him because it engages the reaction of the reader more than other design methods do. Lettering, inking and coloring are essential to his life as an illustrator. Because he loved this aesthetic of comic book art so much, he adapted it to t shirt designs and he manages to create some impressive works. As far as superheroes go, he is a Superman kid at heart. And now it’s time to prove that all this praise is justified:
