Earth Day is now a global event each year in the U.S. and worldwide. It`s a day of civic involvement. People plant trees, recycle or clean up their towns. Corporations and governments use it to make agreements and announce sustainability measures.
The theme for Earth Day 2019 is “Protect our species”. The unprecedented global destruction of plants and wildlife are directly linked to causes driven by human activity. Either is climate change, deforestation, habitat loss, pollution and so on. If we do not act NOW, extinction may be humanity’s most enduring legacy. All living things have an intrinsic value, and each plays a unique role in the complex web of life. We must work together to protect threatened species. Bees, elephants, whales…just to name a few.
The good news is that the rate of extinctions can still be slowed. Endangered species can still recover if we take immediate action.
