I was really glad to be contacted by the nice people at Dr Popcorn Apparel – Tom Everitt to be more exact. He walked me through all the designs and the story of the line, but I was hooked long before that. I noticed them a few weeks back and they were on my list of cool designs to feature on the blog.
They re-launched after a 2-year hiatus and I must say the line is very consistent and with a one of a kind personality. They come from Sheffield, UK and chose a name that, combined with the graphics, shapes the clearest meaning of an oxymoron. They are grim, fascinating and original, reminiscent of charcoal drawings that I have always found intriguing. Going against the wave is what Tom is aiming at and I am sure he has succeeded with distinct features that we rarely see on today’s t-shirts, which focus on popular culture.
“Available for both the ladies and the gentlemen on high quality, lightweight, fair-trade apparel in their very own hand-printed box. All designs are created by one man, the Dr.”
Tell me that didn’t creep you out. Of course it did! Whoever it may be, the DR. is one talented character that should keep on doing this job because people need to find out about art transferred onto fabric in the literal sense of the word. Talking about fabric, the blank t-shirts look amazing – comfortable, stylish and light. And thank you Tom, for actually using the printed t-shirts for the presentation – it’s like fresh air after all the bad mock-up out there.
In addition to adding all this creativity to t-shirts, Dr Popcorn has also supplied the Irish band The Script with their cool apparel. Because art is always sweeter when you give it rhythm.
Don’t be shy and don’t get scared by the designs. They are way too interesting not to check out. Be on the lookout for exclusives on their Facebook account and Twitter. And if you hate these two, you can easily enjoy their Tumblr.
