A series of minimalist book covers by Budi Satria Kwan

Graphic design seems so easy at times though it isn’t – not by far. I find that to be especially true when you have to simplify, unify, summarize a complex concept or an identity. The first things that come into mind are logos, which I find to be extremely tricky and it takes not only talent but a large amount of experience and patience to get that perfect idea that only a text could put across. Instead you have to condense it in a swoosh, a frame or some typographic initials.

The same seems to ring true for book covers. They are some particular examples of power of synthesis and attention to underlying messages. Already known to many of the regular reader of the Tshirt Factory blog is that I have a rather soft spot for the style of Budi Satria Kwan. He has some great examples of minimalist book covers to showcase his ability to concentrate ideas and concepts. I have added my favourite ones but you can see more here.
