Never too much watercolor design
Watercolor seems to be a timeless trend that you can see everywhere in the design business. It is subtle enough not to take the attention away from the central element, but strong enough to give a much-needed texture, used for highlighting parts of the design. Clients and illustrators alike seem to love it so much that there are countless such products being published online. But the technique is much more complicated than it seems, to make something seem messy yet pristine at the same time requires quite the experience. Alisa aka MikibithArt on Creative Market is one such dedicated illustrator, who creates an enchanting world of animals, characters, nature elements and textures that seem to come straight out of a fairy tale. She sat down with us for an interview and told us more about this fascinating talent of hers.
OANA: Please tell us more about your art and design background. What made you become a designer?
ALISA: I ‘m always in search of actual ideas and trends, but my favorite is the watercolor technique I used from 2008, when I created my first watercolor collection ‘Macro Lilies’ and since then I can’t to stop working with aquarelle. My preference are floral themes, people, funny animals and natural colors. I like to mix the styles, use vintage elements, grunge textures and seamless patterns. I’m a comprehensive artist 😉
I always knew that I will work only with my art, drawing something beautiful for all who need my design… And now there is a great time, where every artist has got such cool tools, like digital softwares. I became a designer out of pleasure and found my audience.
OANA: How or when did you start illustrating on a professional level?
ALISA: I think it was a time when I found my style but it was after my long experience in printing design for the customers.
OANA: Where does your inspiration come from?
ALISA: From everything around me. I’m a big fan of the whole universe and nature … I just live and the projects are created in my head, I just look at the colors of leaves and flowers, animals and the sky 🙂 Sure, I always think about the style because all the digital art first of all must be in the commercial trends.
OANA: How would you describe your style?
ALISA: «Made with love»
OANA: What tools you use? Do you go 100% digital or is there paper involved?
ALISA: 80% my illustrations are hand drawn, after scanned and transformed in a digital format like png or psd. Other 20% is photography and the digital drawn or collages.
OANA: Is there anything that you specifically avoid using in your illustrations?
ALISA: I don’t like the seasonal holiday themes.
OANA: What was the hardest job/illustration you have ever worked on?
ALISA: For me all my illustrations is not hard, because I love my job!
OANA: Can you name some of your favorite designs and why?(personal or from other designers)
ALISA: There are so many cool projects from other artists ! I think that all people around are great masters! But some names that pop in my head are Cruzine Design, Worn Out Media Co.
OANA: Any graphic designers you admire?
ALISA: Lisa Glanz !
OANA: Any words of advice for anyone just starting out as an illustrator/graphic designer?
ALISA: Never stop and never look at others, believe in yourself and work, work, work !
