Three ghastly Trump illustrations envision a disconcerting future

Trump illustrations on major magazine covers

We love the world of illustration, of t-shirt prints or any other form of graphic design. The focus was always on the positive here, on the blog. I always try to include as many beautiful things as possible, with a constant reference to current events. We are aware that there are plenty of things to criticize. Still, we’ve tried to stay away from that kind of approach.  We believe encouraging talent and professionalism is more constructive. It’s also a good way to set examples and standards for new comers in the industry.

But it seems that the world is going through some strange, extremely trying times. It seems that it would make us accomplices to the perpetuation of discrimination and hate to pretend it isn’t there.

Land of the Free

The worries are more vocal than ever not only because the issues are so stringent but because they’re escalating at a dangerously fast pace. We’re specifically referring to all the racial and religious discrimination and the event that chocked us up is the unfortunate rally in Charlottesville, USA. Shockingly, it’s 2017 and we’re witnessing a march with Nazi slogans, burning torches followed by disturbing violence. In the end, it resulted in the death of a young woman. In the land of the free and home of the brave, the leaders of the free world. To the desperation of the majority of the USA’s citizens, President Trump took no less than 72 hours to barely condemn the actions of white supremacists, to the pressure of the whole country, without even naming them.

As expected, outrage and indignation at the example he is setting for the country, for the world and the young generation was immense. When you become president of such a powerful country you inherit a great responsibility. Saying nothing or being passive in front of hatred, violence and racism is synonymous with condoning it.

The Trump Era

That’s why today this post is in support to those who criticize him. A mass resignation from the presidential arts and humanities committee of USA sent in the form of a letter to Pres. Trump is an example of that. But what we’re going to do is highlight the cover illustrations on three of the biggest newspapers in the world: The Economist, The New Yorker and Time Magazine. Can you believe these mirror the current state of affairs in the States?
